NOMR Physics Lab in VR
Our team of four designs a new lab experiment for sophomores within NOMR, a VR Lab utilised by UW Dept. of Physics.
research Methodology
Perceived difficulty in using VR and imbalanced team dynamics influenced students’ learning outcomes in the lab.
We gained insights by aligning with stakeholders and analysing competitors, but our main source of valuable information came from weekly low-fidelity deWe used a couple of field studies, an informal focus study and many semi-structured user interviews to come up with our main insights about the lab’s impact and effectiveness on student’s learning.
What we identified finally was not just the need to simplify the user experience in NOMR, but to also bring opportunities to level the playing field for all students in a physics lab team agnostic of their familiarity with VR or communication patterns. sign iterations presented to clients for feedback and course-correction. This helped us identify key goals and frustrations that shaped our design strategy.
SOLUTION: SIMULATING SCIENTIFIC THINKING
Deduce unanticipated physics phenomena using scientifically realistic tools that leave room for error & estimation.
We designed prototypes and scenarios of a Particle Decay experiment introducing particle “Omegon”, that splits into 3 daughter particles, only one of them is a mystery and can’t be seen.
To reveal the particle, students must measure properties of all other particles. We prototyped a 3D tracker feature to show particle movement and a circular measurement tool with realistic margins of error to simulate real scientific lab experience for students.
SOLUTION: Equalise learning between all
Reduce visual block for the VR operators of the team & add onboarding for new users to increase familiarity with NOMR
This was a series of multiple UX enhancements geared towards improving the communication within teams and between student and TA in the lab. (for example, adding a pass through mode while talking to another person)
We also added onboarding flows and suggested ergonomically better headset gear for Oculus Quest 2 to encourage increased sharing of responsibility between all team members to use VR and consequently reducing physical fatigue.

Alation Business Lineage
A summer internship working on building a user-friendly graphical representation that tracks data and its related key metadata and their evolution through the pipeline.
Accessing internal knowledge
Business Lineage should leverage existing metadata to enhance the business context for all consumers of data.
To clarify the definition of "Business Lineage," I interviewed our customer success managers to understand its purpose and potential benefits for clients. This endeavour revealed that Business Lineage is not just a user-friendly layer, but a way to provide easily digestible & contextualised metadata for easier generation of insights.
USER INTERVIEWS
Everyone has unique quirks in lineage documentation, but the common goal is to be informed and maintain data quality.
Through structured interviews prepped with my manager and Lead UX researcher, we tried answering the question “How do users document business context and what actions do they want to enable while accessing it?”.
I used this as an opportunity to figure out the connection between data assets and business assets within Alation and the kind of mental models users apply to understand them within their organisation.
SOLUTION: Business Knowledge Map
Center the business lineage experience on business properties for meaningful connection across databases.

Mool One NeoBanking
My design studio days where I worked with clients to create a banking mobile app that caters to the blue-collar workforce that’s severely underbanked in India.
context building
Banking services are unfriendly to individuals with erratic sources of money and small amounts of income.
We gained insights by aligning with stakeholders and analysing competitors, but our main source of valuable information came from weekly low-fidelity design iterations presented to clients for feedback and course-correction. This helped us identify key goals and frustrations that shaped our design strategy.
SOLUTION: Automate savings
By automating income-based deposits we can relieve users from the burdens of financial decision-making.
We designed a list of rulesets that provide users with ways to automate their savings and turn them into investment buckets. We used our previously designed structure of forms and surveys to simplify the process of customising these rules and designed a home page for all active rules to help users quickly track them all.
SOLUTION: Visualise financial goals
Viewing projections of their net worth based on selected goals increases user’s internal locus of motivation.
Our tool tracks users' financial journey, provides future projections, and allows adjustments. In the "Future" tab, an interactive graph compares current net worth to projections.
Alternate investment portfolios can be toggled to visualise their long-term impact, with scaling indicating the risk-to-growth ratio.

EssentiallySports MMA
A freelancing project where I designed a sports apps to be the ultimate hub of news and community for loyal Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fans.
taking The mvp approach
Users seek frictionless access to relevant, quality content while engaging with fellow MMA fans within the app.
With our content-first app, we built an MVP, tracked user engagement, and iterated based on feedback. We prioritised user-friendly distribution in the main feed and fostered our MMA community with likes, comments, and continuous improvements tracked via Google Analytics.
SOLUTION: Introduce “Hooks”
Add “hooks” and better UX into the app to motivate the users to stay on for longer duration and increase interactions.
User engagement of our app fell short of our goal, with Average Sessions per User at 1.9/day & Number of Likes at 16/week.
To boost engagement, we added touch-points within articles to explore related topics and encourage longer app usage. We introduced a "Stories" section below horizontal tabs, providing related coverage of the latest MMA fights to keep fans engaged.
SOLUTION: Adding events & fighters info
Reduce reliance on fleeting content and increase static info on events and fighters to drive user engagement.
Our app delivered dynamic content to keep users updated, but we also aimed to provide factual information about UFC events. Our goal was to make fighter details, upcoming fights, past fight scores, and statistics easily accessible in a predictable manner.

Tone Matters When You Text
For my HCDE school project, I collaborated with three others on a 2-month design project exploring the role of tone in text communication and its impact on relationships.
Surveys, Interviews & affinity mapping
Users adapt their style of texting based on who they text with (for example, friends vs professional coworkers).
Our research findings allowed us to produce needs and goals relating to the presentation of self and others through tone, as well as language, cultural, and generation barriers in texting. We created two personas, Grace and Gus. Grace was our primary user and a non-native speaker who wants to effortlessly text with her new friends. Gus is our secondary user who may repurpose our solution to use it in professional capacity.
SOLUTION: custom plugin for messenger
Incorporate a tone detection UI and slang dictionary to enhance users' confidence in interpreting received texts.
Based on our assessment, we based our plugin on the most popular app cited by most of our participants, i.e. the Messenger app. Hence we created a custom version of Tone Matters keyboard that integrates with the existing patterns of an iOS keyboard and allows users to turn on all the features of Tone Matters at their convenience.
SOLUTION: edit tone based on intention
A recommendation system that allows users to enhance or mask their intended tone in their own texts.
We differentiated the action of editing tone into either enhancing or masking. This was taken into consideration by providing our users with small prompts about how they sound within the keyboard and allowing them to access the editing screens where they could either amplify their current tone or change it completely, based on their actual intentions.
